Week #57 - 我回来了!(I am back!)

This last week was transfers. I knew I might be leaving Pasadena because I had been there for 7 months so I made this last week count. The day before transfers we visited our recent convert Jane Zheng and she made us some awesome baozi and these cool chinese donuts. It was really good.

On Wednesday we got the transfer news and I learned I would be going back to Hacienda Heights to whitewash and train. It was sad to leave the Pasadena zone and the branch over there. I just finished training Elder Lyu so I was not expecting to go back to back but here we are. My new companion is Elder Kemp. He is from South Jordan Utah and he was in a Chinese immersion program growing up. He can already write and read Chinese and knows a lot of words. He is excited to get to work and this area has a lot of potential so I think this is going to be a very fun transfer. The ward that we serve in now has 9 Chinese missionaries serving in it at the same time! 6 elders and 3 sisters. It is kind of crazy but we will see what happens.

It was fun to see the reactions of ward members yesterday because they were all so surprised that I had returned to Hacienda Heights. I was also thrilled to actually be able to understand what was going on during church, which isn't something I could say last year when I was here. The missionaries will take turns translating during sacrament meeting, because there are a couple people that come to our ward who speak no Chinese. One of them is Brother Hinojosa. He has been going to this church building for the last 35 years so when the English ward moved to another building and the Chinese ward moved in he decided to keep going to the same church building. I respect his dedication to this building but it is hard when everyone else has to translate for him and his wife.

We have only been in this new area for 2 days and haven't had much success, but we did have a cool miracle yesterday. Before church our car was having some problems and wouldn't shift into drive or start. We were going to be late to church and had no idea what was wrong. I popped the hood, looked at the engine, closed the hood, and then decided we needed to pray. We said a prayer and sure enough all the hazard lights disappeared and the car worked just fine. We haven't had any problems since.

Scripture of the Week: Mosiah 4:27
And see that all these things are done in wisdom and aorder; for it is not requisite that a man should run bfaster than he has strength. And again, it is expedient that he should be diligent, that thereby he might win the prize; therefore, all things must be done in order.

That's all folks,
李长老
