Week #6 - MTC Week #4

你好, Not a lot has happened since last week, but I have been learning and growing. One thing specifically that I have focused on this week is the Book of Mormon and my testimony of it. During this week's Sunday devotional that was one of the topics that was discussed and the spirit has really testified to me this week how true the Book of Mormon is. I took some time to read President Nelson's conference talk from the October 2017 conference titled "The Book of Mormon: What Would Your LIfe Be Like Without It?". One thing I realized while reading this is how much I know because of the Book of Mormon. Without the Book of Mormon I would have almost no knowledge on the Atonement, Ordinances, and the Plan of Salvation. I challenge all of you to daily read from your Book of Mormon and if you do you can have this promised blessing given by President Nelson: "I promise that as you prayerfully study the Book of Mormon every day, you will make better decisions every day...

Week #5 - 2 is better than 1

This week has flown by. I have been studying hard and can almost recite the first vision in chinese. This week me and Elder Larsen have our first teaching appointment in Chinese. I know I can get my message across in Chinese but at this point it is not very pretty. This week I also had the chance to help my cousin Jared with his bags as he got to the MTC. It's been good talking with him and the MTC is much better with two Elder Rees's. Well, there isn't much else going on, but I am doing good and am praying for all of you. Scripture of the Week: Luke 10:2 Therefore said he unto them, The  a harvest  truly  is  great, but the labourers  are  few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest. - I like this scripture because it gives a good summary of the purpose of missions and missionary work Elder Daxton Sorenson, Bear River High Elder Jared Rees, his 1st day at the MTC

Week #4 - Hope of Israel

你好, My second week of the MTC has been a great experience for me to learn and grow. I enjoyed being able to be with the Taiwanese Elders until the rest of their district arrived so they are now in a district of their own, but we are still in the same branch. I have struggled with Chinese this past week but I know as I keep studying and progressing little by little, then I will get better. Every Tuesday at the MTC we get to have a devotional in the evening. Me and my companion Elder Larsen decided to join the MTC choir and so we were able to sing at the devotional. This MTC devotional was broadcast to all the missionary training centers throughout the world. No one knows who is speaking at the devotional until about 15 minutes before it starts. The speakers are usually area authorities or general authorities so I was surprised when they announced Elder Uchtdorf would be speaking to us. We sang Hope of Israel and I sang my heart out. It was one of the coolest experiences of my life a...

Week #3 The Character of Christ

Image
Hey Everyone! I was dropped off at the Provo MTC on Wednesday and it has been a great experience so far! Day one consisted of unpacking all my luggage and getting familiar with the MTC. I am in a dorm room with three other elders who are all going to Riverside, California.  On Thursday I had my first in person Mandarin class and the teacher spoke only Chinese for the entirety of the class. I was a bit intimidated because the only words I caught within the first hour were "wo" (I), "Ni" (you), and "Yesu Jidu" (Jesus Christ). However, I have seen major improvements in my Chinese.  My classroom is on the fourth floor of the building on the south of the campus and I have a good view of the Wasatch mountains. It is also fun to see the Provo temple lit up every night.  I have enjoyed playing lanqiu (basketball) every morning and dunking while the gym staff isn't watching. I was fortunate to see my friend Elder Sorenson from Bear River and playing basketbal...
