Week #61 - 每天是一样的 (It's the same every day)

Image
This week we had a lot of meetings. We had a zone conference this week with Elder and Sister McConkie. It was amazing. He taught us about speaking the language of the spirit when we seek revelation. We also focused on our purpose as missionaries and how to fulfill it. He is a powerful speaker and teacher. He told some cool stories from his mission in Czechoslovakia and when he was mission president there. He really helped me to realize the power and authority of my calling as a missionary for Jesus Christ.  Another cool thing is one of our friends 杨Yang Dixiong came to church this Sunday. We had completely lost contact with him and feared he either blocked us or didn't pay his phone bill. We hadn't seen him for a couple weeks but then he showed up to church and brought another one of his friends with him. We also did some service this week at a place called Hurst Ranch. They have a little fall festival over there and me and my companion ended up running a little booth teachi...

Week #60 - 在做神的工作 (Doing God's Work)

It is crazy that I have already been in Hacienda Heights for 3 weeks. Time really does move different as a missionary. This week we were able to find some awesome new people but unfortunately some of our other friends we had to stop teaching because they were not progressing. Elder Kemp and I have really been stretching to learn Chinese. We decided the best way to do so was to only speak it, so we have set goals to slowly speak Chinese more and more. Next week we will have a zone conference and Elder MCconkie the 3rd will be there. He spoke in the October 2022 conference about the 4 friends carrying their paralyzed friend and bringing him to Jesus. I really enjoyed that talk so this should be a great zone conference. Scripture of the Week: Omni 1:26 And now, my beloved brethren, I would that ye should  a come  unto Christ, who is the Holy One of Israel, and partake of his salvation, and the power of his redemption. Yea, come unto him, and  b offer  your whole ...

Week #59 - 神还是上帝?(God or God?)

Image
This week not too much happened. We tracted into this awesome guy named yang. He is interested in Christianity but does not know much about it. So far we have only got to meet with him once and then he came to church on sunday. Testimony meeting was good but Elder's quorum consisted of two of our members arguing the whole time about whether Heavenly Father should be referred to as Shen or Shangdi. It confused our friend Yang, who doesn't really know anything about religion in general. One thing I have found hard in teaching Chinese people is that they have a hard time understanding what the Book of Mormon is. Even after explaining it to them multiple times they usually think it is just a different version of the bible. It is really awesome however when it does click for them and then we can start getting somewhere. This week we don't have too many lessons set up so we will probably be doing a lot of finding. Scripture of the Week: Alma 4:10 And thus ended the eighth year ...

Week #58 - Conference Chaos

Image
This last week has been wild. Elder Kemp and I have been tracting a lot and doing park finding. We started doing our studies at the park so that it gives us more chances to talk to people. One time we were doing our daily scripture study at the park and there were about 60 Chinese ladies doing tai chi next to us with relaxing Chinese instrumental music. But suddenly the song switched to some country song and they, with straight faces, started to square dance in unison. Really threw me and Elder Kemp for a loop.  We set up conference at the Church by pushing a TV from the library into the primary room and then connecting one of our phones to it. I wasn't able to see all of the conference but the parts that I did were great! I really liked the talk by Elder Daines about "Spiritual Face Blindness" as well as Elder Uchtdorf's talk about the prodigal son. Elder Daines' talk got me thinking about who am I face blind to? Who has helped me in my life and I am too selfis...
