Week #69 - A Not So Silent Night
About three weeks ago we decided to hike Mount Baldy. It is the highest point of our mission and was a fun hike. It was about 12 miles all around but the elevation gain was killer. The downside was that the next two days I was about as mobile as Tiny Tim due to some unexpected leg soreness. This last week was transfers. I am still in the same zone but my companion Elder Kemp got moved out to Rancho Cucamonga. My New comp is Elder Allen.
One funny story from this last week is that while we were making dinner at the apartment, we got a call from some English sister missionaries that a Chinese family pulled up to their ward Christmas party. We booked it over to the church building and went and taught the Chinese family. The Lady we taught really liked the message we shared and the musical performances at the ward party. She liked the musical performances so much that she thought she might match it with her own. The ward changed the program and added her in and then she went up to the stage in the cultural hall and sang her best rendition of Silent Night in Chinese, without any background music. She wasn't much of a singer but she sure was a good tryer. The ward was super confused because she had just walked into the building for the first time 30 minutes earlier. We have a lesson with her this Tuesday so hopefully that goes well.
Right now we are teaching an old lady named Mimi. Her baptism is set for 12/31 and she is super awesome and prepared. She was going to have a surgery before her baptism but she delayed the surgery so that she could have the gift of the holy ghost before the surgery. There is still no snow out here in California despite my prayers. Although there is no snow, I am really enjoying the opportunity to focus more on the Savior this season.
I hope you all have a great Christmas!
Scripture of the week: 1 Nephi 13:41
And they must come according to the words which shall be established by the mouth of the Lamb; and the words of the Lamb shall be made known in the records of thy seed, as well as in the records of the twelve apostles of the Lamb; wherefore they both shall be established in one; for there is one God and one Shepherd over all the earth.
